Denmark withdraws from hosting the EPC 2016 ...
Alright guys. Denmark will withdraw its bid to host the EPC 2016.
Thanks to UK, ROMANIA, BELGIUM, SWEDEN & THAILAND for comments. Highly appreciated. Some guys could have ended up putting a lot of work into this and not have a lot of happy players as the result.
Bo Mertins and his team pull out with no bitterness. Buy let me tell you - they did their homework. Bo has gone to the last three EPC's (Sweden, Italy and Belgium) and been really impressed with what he saw. Especially Belgium has been seen as the new standard to meet.
I spent some time going through the numbers behind the price calculation for EPC 2016 with him. No matter how he works it the combined cost would have ended up around 43.000 EURO - and that's with only one meal Saturday night. Why? Well - a venue in central Copenhagen with room for 300 players is expensive. The event would also have to rent 55 machines from three big operators, pay 10+ officials and transportation. Then there is food, staff and mechanics.
The fact is just that there's is not enough volunteers in Denmark to rely on free man power - and only 25 machines in Pinlab, so a lot of basics for an EPC had to be brought in. And if Bo were to have done it - he wanted to do it at a professional level. We will now have to wait until IFPA World Championship 2017 to get a taste of that.
So Denmark is now back in line with the rest of you - hoping so much that somebody will step up and host the EPC 2016.
All the best,
Mads
